Speldhurst Parish Council is seeking a motivated and organised Deputy Clerk to support the Clerk in the efficient administration of the Council and the delivery of high-quality services to the local community.
This is a part-time role working 24 hours per week, on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, between the usual office hours of 9:00am – 5:00pm. The post holder will also be required to attend occasional evening meetings.
Key Responsibilities
The Deputy Clerk will work closely with the Clerk and councillors and will be responsible for a wide range of administrative and clerking duties, including:
- Assisting the Clerk in managing Council meetings, including the preparation of agendas, reports and minutes
- Attending and minuting alternate Full Council meetings
- Clerking the Amenities & Environment Committee
- Clerking the Planning Committee, including posting statutory notices
- Assisting the Clerk with the Highways Committee
- Undertaking relevant committee work and research
- Coordinating meetings between staff and councillors and booking meeting rooms
- Providing administrative support to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of Council activities
- Acting as a first point of contact for residents, responding to enquiries professionally and efficiently
- Maintaining accurate records and supporting compliance with relevant legislation and Council policies
- Supporting the delivery of Council services, projects and events
- Promoting effective communication with the public
- Deputising for the Clerk when required
- Undertaking any other reasonable duties required by the Council
About You
The successful candidate will be well organised, confident in communication, and able to work independently as well as part of a small team. Previous experience in local government administration or committee clerking would be advantageous, but training may be provided for the right candidate.
